Rural Projects : Bijapur Village August 2006

In August 2 2006, we visited the rural village of Bijapur, which is a drive of approximately 12 hours north of our headquarters in Bangalore. It is small village whose economy is based primary on agriculture.

There are many difficulties facing this village, including widespread poverty, lack of decent paying jobs, poor hygiene, and a lack of clean and warm water. Many areas and streets in the villages are littered with garbage and roaming animals, making it very unsafe for children to be out playing. Lack of education and rampant illiteracy is the primary barrier that keeps the villagers from improving their situation.

Aid 2 India International is planning several projects help the villagers in Bijapur, such as literacy and self-employment job training programs. However, we need funds to hire teachers, rent a building, and purchase sewing machines to implement these projects. Currently the costs are estimated to be approximately $1500.00 US. The people of Bijapur very much require outside help from people like you. If you or your organization would like to extend your help to Bijapur, please contact us at projects@aid2india.com.
