As you can see, AIDS is having a devastating effect throughout India. Despite the fact that many steps can be taken towards preventing the spread of the disease, lack of awareness and education in rural areas are preventing much needed progress. Such people have never even heard of AIDS, and many of those that have heard the name still hold many myths and superstitions concerning its nature and means of infection.
While the AIDS epidemic in India is a daunting challenge, Aid 2 India International has decided to take an initiative to combat lack of education and awareness by starting a new AIDS Awareness program. This program is currently being organized in the rural areas and villages around Bangalore. It will include dramas and skits in order to teach the villagers the dangers of AIDS, as well as the sobering statistics that include the fact that AIDS is predicted to claim more than 16 million lives in India by 2016.

While combating the spread of AIDS in India is a formidable task that cannot be accomplished overnight, Aid 2 India believes that even limited initial educational programs can start positive trends to increase awareness throughout rural India, and will save countless lives as a result.
